Just an FYI that Wavosaur apparently works without problem under Ubuntu. For example, here is a screen shot:

All I did was download Wavosaur, unzip it, then right-click on wavosaur.exe and say "Open Using Wine Emulator...". Boom, up came Wavosaur. Most VST plugins seem to work inside it as well.

Anyway just thought I'd share that I'm having some success using Wavosaur under Ubuntu, in case other might find this helpful.

Cheers on a great product!

PostPosted: Sat Nov 01, 2008 4:39 pm    Post subject: How to solve the "MFC42.DLL not found" issue Reply with quote

As an additional token:
(This may not be an issue with all configurations/versions/systems)

With Ubuntu 8.04 and Wine 1.0 (as installed by doing apt-get install wine) trying to run Wavosaur.exe (version 1.0.3.0) failed.
Starting in a terminal with "wine Wavosaur.exe" showed the following error:

err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Wavosaur\\Wavosaur.exe") not found

This is easily solved if you are on a dual boot:
- locate your WINDOWS/system32 folder on your windows partition (this is usually mounted in MEDIA/[label of your windows drive] in Ubuntu by default).
- locate the file MFC42.DLL and copy it in the folder where the Wavosaur.exe file is (the one used by wine)
- At this point Wavosaur should start by simply double clicking on the executable.

If you don't have a copy of Windows you might try this link which as of today seems to work and which I've tested:
http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/M/mfc42.dll/6.0.400/download.html

Kind regards,
Lorenzo.
PS: Unfortunately it looks like there are various versions of the mfc42.dll file (not all of them working with Wavosaur), so you might have to search and try a bit if the above link isn't up any more

Wow many thanks for these informations.

You are right, there are different versions of this MFC42.dll, but for the moment I don't study why.

I just want to confirm that Wavosaur works on Linux Mint 13 Maya (32 bit) with the XFCE 4.10 Desktop and Wine 1.4. I had to follow Lorenzo's instructions and copy my WinXP mfc42.dll to the Wavosaur directory.

This is fantastic news. I was a Linux Mint user for a couple years before I learned that audio on Linux is terrible beyond belief. I went back to XP just for audio editing. Now that I see Wavosaur works I can abandon Windows again (I just don't find Win7's improvements make up for the bad GUI and resource bloat. 2GB of RAM for an OS is just stupid). I wish I would have seen this thread in 2008!
