19July2010

Greetings.

ReaFIR VST Noise Reduction adds a fraction of a second of silence
to the beginning of whatever noise sample is being processed.
The length of neither the noise sample nor the entire audio sample is changed however.
The noise sample - or entire audio sample if the entire audio sample is processed - is therefore,
(slightly) compressed/squeezed to make room for the fraction of second of silence.

This also makes it more difficult to test the noise reduction on the noise sample
before applying to the entire audio sample. Usually/Often the noise sample is less than a second long.
Applying ReaFIR to only the noise sample will result in the noise sample
NOT being processed by ReaFIR BUT rather being replaced by the fraction of a second of silence.

ReaFIR adds this fraction of a second of silence to noise/audio samples in both Wavosaur and Audacity.

Seems like a "bug" to me ...

Maybe this will be of interest to someone and/or generate some kind of tweak/fix?

I'm curious about this one, but not able to verify it right away. Initially it seems to me, that since the whole audio clip preserves its lenght but just the fraction in the beginning gets silence, that fraction is exactly the part where the noise has already been removed > silence? Have to check this one out.

The easiest way to see an example of what I have described
is to have ReaFIR generate a noise waveform and then to apply
ReaFIR VST Noise Reduction randomly in the middle
of the audio track - not from the beginning.
ReaFIR will insert a fraction of a second of silence
in the front of the selected area and then squeeze
the selected area to fit into the selected area
without increasing the length of the selected area ...

Hello, is there any update on this? I tried using ReaFIR on a freshly downloaded Wavosaur last night on four tracks of audio, and when queuing them up together they were suddenly out of synch by different amounts due to the processing.

Is there going to be a fix for this?
