Maybe not strictly a Wavosaur question - but it's around this project that I'll be using wavosaur....

I have to copy my dad's old 78rpm vinyl collection and put them on CD or DVD and I'm wondering what's the best way to do it?

I can get them off vinyl with a turntable I've got that hooks into the computer.

And then the questions begin. What sampling rate to use? What format to keep the files in - mp3? I already have some mp3's but they're of the whole one side of a 78. Maybe six tracks on there. Have to edit them apart again before buring to CD or DVD?

And which one? CD or DVD? And how? DVD-A or DVD video or MP3 to DVD or shouldn't be DVD at all?

Can anyone help with all this?

You might want to record them as wav 16bit to be able to edit and process them easily before exporting to mp3s

When connecting your pc and turntable remember the RIAA correction that applies to turntables (although I don't know if an old 78 rpm table has it). I connect my pc to my stereo set as a tape recorder so the stereo amp takes care of that.

Good luck!

most sound cards record at 16bit 44khz so check yours and record at the highest settings of sound card 24bit would be nice to capture drums good. I use WAV to record all of side A then Side B its fast to edit and is lossless format ( I need to try FLAC or (F)ree (L)ossless (A)udio (C)odec in the future because its lossless and has compression but i have not edited with it yet. i save my raw WAV files as wavpack or .WV free codec to compress at a lossless stage to store my master raw music
