|

27September2009
Greetings.
I am a new Wavosaur user.
I'm trying to find "a better way" to remove noise
from video soundtracks (e.g., captured from VHS & etc...).
I've used Audacity & (free) NCH WavPad 3.02 for years.
Both allow the user to specify the folder/path for temp files.
Wavosaur does NOT seem to allow this configuration.
Wavosaur seems to use the XP pagefile.
I can't have my pagefile growing boundlessly.
I have my pagefile on a special partition with limited size.
What can users do to control where Wavosaur puts temp files?
Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.
Regards,
AEN

FordMustang, as you seem to ask 3-5 word questions instead of responding to the originator in most of your posts, i got a secret website for you that answers a lot of them...
http://www.google.com
---------------------
to the topic:
i think for now wavosaur uses ram only, that also includes the pagefile. i agree that it would be great to be able to set a temp file in the options that contains the data rather than ram. i guess this is already on the to do list, if not a +1 from me to the FR.
p.s.: FordMustang - FR = feature request _________________ ThinkPad T500,Core 2 Duo T9600 (2x2,8GHz)/3GB RAM/Radeon HD3650/FireWire 410/WinXP SP3 32bit

Greetings.
Thanks for the reply.
I can't believe Wavosaur has been around
as long as it has without the temp path option.
When I load a video soundtrack in Wavosaur,
my PF/RAM usage goes from 400mb to 1.3gb.
I won't elaborate (at least not now) on other suggestions
that have crossed my mind after using Wavosaur today.
Anyway, the Wavosaur noise removal seems like
it might be an improvement over the other options that I know,
so maybe I'll be using Wavosaur only for noise removal.
Wavosaur seems to have a playback problem - at least on my XP laptops.
I can't determine why or what the problem is.
The volume is too loud & causing clipping that does not exist
when I play back the same file in JetAudio.
I can't tell what the effect of the noise removal really is
by playing back in Wavosaur. I have to save the sample
and play it back in JetAudio.
Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
... and, yes, the internet offers something for everyone ...
even psychos who have a need to manifest "forum personality disorders" ...
Thank you.

AEN

man, are you just trying to get your postcount up?

@AEN007: i got no suggestions for you. hopefully the very cool team around wavosaur will address these things for the next update. wavosaur for me is still one of the best free solutions as i mainly use it for cutting short loops for making music.
i'm not sure if it's mature enough already to do things like sound-editing for video productions, though. _________________ ThinkPad T500,Core 2 Duo T9600 (2x2,8GHz)/3GB RAM/Radeon HD3650/FireWire 410/WinXP SP3 32bit

Greetings.
Bad news & good news ...
As I sus/ex-pected, XP gave me virtual memory warnings
when I tried to apply VST noise reduction to a full length soundtrack;
so I had to kill Wavosaur. I then spent the better part of a day
scouring the internet to determine what freeware, wavedit
alternatives were/are for applying the very good Reaper VST noise reduction.
I found virtually none.
WavPad says it supports VST, but
I've never been able to get Wavpad to properly apply VST.
Fortunately the latest Audacity ßetas offer VST support
almost as good as Wavosaur, so I'll be using Audacity
to apply the Reaper VST noise reduction.
Wavosaur has some very strong points» portable / install-free and
maybe the best VST support (of freeware apps ...).
Wavosaur doesn't seem to have any hotkeys for zooming or playback.
I'm not sure why the Wavosaur display is twice as long as the file that's loaded.
I found Wavosaur a bit difficult to use compared to Audacity/WavPad.
The lack of a temp path/directory seems to me a "fatal flaw".
During my recent www scouring, I encountered complaints
by others that Wavosaur cannot process large files ...
I wish/hope that Wavosaur would add the temp path feature.
I'm not sure how long this "Freeware Golden Age" will last.
I'm not sure why some people spend so much time developing freeware.
I sure spend a lot of time consuming/collecting freeware ...
Now we are all supposed to dump XP for Win7?
I expect I'll use XP until April2014 ... at least ...
Best regards,
AEN

Greetings.
The new Wavosaur is here
but nothing has been done about this issue.
VERY DISAPPOINTING and
not good for Wavosaur either! |
