So I have a condenser mic with a -10 and -20 dB pad in addition to a MXL Mic Mate on the way with a low, medium, and high gain switch.
I'm wondering which of these I should "set" first. For example, when I start with no pad and the gain on "high," if I need to lower the volume, should I set the gain lower or should I put the -10 dB pad on?
I'm a bit confused on if the "high" gain setting will be boosting the volume or if it's the "low" setting that will lower it. |

The mic pad is used to compensate for a sound source that is too loud; start with it turned off. If the source overloads the mic, causing audible distortion, then engage the pad.
Start with the Mic Mate gain set low and raise it if needed, taking care not to clip downstream devices. |

Alright, so I'll start with the low gain and no attenuator pad as opposed to high gain with the pad. Thanks! |
