I downloaded Extra Boy, and copied the .dll file to the same folder as Wavosaur.
When I try to install it, I get an error, saying it could not access the registry, and crashes the program.

What am I doing wrong?
I am new to all this, so would appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks!

Trish

Glad to hear that - but it really doesn't help me out much.

Hoping someone will have a solution to suggest...

my guess is as follows:
extra boy might try to write a key to the registry. can it be that you are logged in to your computer as a simple user without administrative access? if so try to run wavosaur with an admin account or use the "run as other user" feature.
it's clearly not wavosaurs fault, the problem is the vst.

it could help if you told us what OS you are running.

Thanks much for your reply!
And you are so right - I should have told you the OS details.

I am the only user on the computer, so am the admin. I am running Vista Home Premium - the computer has AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-core processor, 8GB ram, 32 bit system, with over a TB of storage.

Maybe if I disable the PC Tools anti-virus? It didn't ask me (as it usually does) if I want to allow what's happening, neither did Windows (as it usually does) - that is what confused me when it happened.

Am open to any suggestions - and any help is appreciated!

Trish

have you tried other vsts? does that work?

tbh, i still think it could be a permission problem or as you mentioned one of the security tools.

Hi,
Just had this same problem as original poster: some plugins cause a registry error and program crash, others don't. Anyone know why? Anyone have a workaround? Bang to the beat drum

VST plugins are not standalone softwares. They need a "host" in order to be managed and to communicate from one plugin to another.

The best known of VST hosts is "Cubase" from Steinberg, but if you want to use a free one.

To allow those VST hosts to work, your PC must have an ASIO driver. If it is not the case and you get a "No ASIO driver!" message, you must first download ASIO4ALL which should solve the problem. Okayyyyyy
