Ez again all... I've just been reading on another site about FLAC audio compression that works like ZIP files, I know that MP3 is good, but FLAC could be the next best thing, since it compresses and decompresses at a lossless quality (so you can FLAC a WAV, then de-FLAC back to a WAV with no loss, while if you MP3 a WAV and then back to a WAV, you will lose sound quality). www.dubstudio.co.uk is where I got this info, they are a cutting house in the UK keeping vinyl alive - some other good bits on there too, but this FLAC option could be great if added in
What does everyone else think? |

You are right, FLAC file format seems very interresting and promising.
MP3 is not a lossless format (like ogg).
We worked on the flac SDK (to add this file support in Wavosaur), but for the moment we failed to compile the source codes, unfortunaltely. _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi Dandruff, happy to read you again!
For info, WavPack decoder is planed for next release. The SDK is a little bit easier to understand than FLAC.
We have always an eye on all the different file format. It's always a problem of time of coding... We need simple and quick SDK to optimise our own schedule. Wavosaur is not a huge firm.
For Flac for example the total documentation and source codes represent lot's of document to study. _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cool, thanks! It's the only lossless codec I really use/need :) |

I voted for flac, though really WavPack would be equally useful and mp3 would be cool too. Support for lossy AND lossless compression would be great :)
(OT but still on the subject of audio formats: how about support for aiff?) |

tommyD, wavosaur has a mp3 support, and import without problem AIFF files.
Let me know if I missed something :) _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello Everyone!
Been bust recording, so haven't had much time to pop in lately....and yes, Wavosaur is still on the system!
I have used FLAC for close to 2 years and really like it. I just found WavPack a few weeks ago, so I really don't have any thoughts on it yet. But either one is better than MP3, and although I have to upload to sites in the MP3 format, I really dislike what it does to the sound.
I vote for Flac tho, just because I am use to it! _________________ My Music

+1 for FLAC - it's too important and widely-used these days. |
