I have just recently downloaded wavosaur and Im having problems recording a mix.
I have the cable going from the record out line of my mixer to the mic connection on my laptop (a Dell Inspiron).
I have been able to record a file but the quality is very poor and external noise is picked up as well as the output from my mixer/stereo. For instance, when I tap the laptop or click the cursor during the recording this comes through louder than the mixer output.
Someone told me to adjust or turn off the internal mic on the laptop. However, this has not helped. Also, I have changed the audio configuration in wavosaur to "line in" rather than "internal mic" but this too has had no effect.
How can I get a clear recording of the output of the mixer without recording other sounds and background fuzz?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! |

You need a line input, not a mic input.
The mic input is expecting a very low signal level which the mic preamp will then bring up to line level. The mixer's record out is already at line level.
In short, the mic input is being massively overloaded.
If you don't have a line input, look for a mic/line level software switch in your laptop and set it to line in.
Should be somewhere like: Control Panel >Sound >Recording.
Could look something like this:
If you don't find such a switch, look for an external USB sound card with line inputs whose input level matches your mixer's nominal output level.

Attenuating cables and direct inject boxes are less satisfactory solutions and may not work anyway, given this:

If the mic input is TRS, it may be mono and carrying voltage on the ring connector intended for a condenser mic. Might account for the microphonic effects you're getting from the keyboard, but that's just a guess.
